Flexpod as a Service – it has a nice ring to it! Today, I am happy to be able to announce that another industry leader chose Desktone for virtual desktops delivered as a cloud service. We have been working with NetApp in the field for over 12 months jointly helping Service Providers deliver desktops as a service (DaaS), and today NetApp formally announced their new DaaS offering.
This offering has been built from the ground up for Service Providers (system integrators, telcos, cloud providers and MSPs) to deliver cloud-hosted virtual desktops. There is no other virtual desktop solution available that can come close to meeting the needs of these organizations like the combined NetApp/Desktone DaaS offering. Combining the industry’s only virtual desktop platform built for service providers, with critical cloud features such as multi-tenancy, with NetApp’s premier storage technology we can substantially lower the cost of delivering virtual desktops without compromising performance.
This is an exciting announcement for many reasons. First, it further acknowledges the growing demand for a better deployment model for virtual desktops and VDI. Of course we always believed in DaaS, but others in the industry did not. Second, it further solidifies our leadership in the hosted virtual desktop category. I get asked all the time what we mean when we say that we’re the ‘industry’s only virtual desktop platform for cloud delivery’ or when we say ‘we were built for Service Providers from day 1’. Well now you don’t have to take our marketing word for it, just talk to your trusted partner NetApp, and ask them why they chose us for hosted virtual desktops. They recognized how Desktone differentiates from traditional VDI vendors. Third, it introduces new opportunities for Desktone to scale as NetApp looks to bring DaaS to their global Service Provider community. Fourth, we get to work with some of the smartest minds in storage and VDI. And finally, working with the industry leader in storage solutions we are able to identify new areas where we can help Service Providers significantly lower the cost of virtual desktops without sacrificing performance. We already exploit many great NetApp features such as deduplication and thin provisioning with many more integrations on the roadmap.
