Moves DaaS Offering from Traditional VDI Approach to Desktone to Leverage Multi-Tenant Cloud Platform

Chelmsford, MA — tuCloud, a provider of managed and hosted virtual desktops, today announced it has partnered with Desktone, Inc., the pioneer of Desktops as a Service (DaaS), to offer cost-effective, full-featured virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) in the cloud. tuCloud will leverage Desktone’s DaaS platform to deliver cloud-hosted virtual desktops that can scale with their customers’ business needs. tuCloud will migrate from a traditional VDI platform to the new DaaS offering.

Desktone’s DaaS technology will run tuCloud’s Desktops on Demand™ service, a fully managed and fully hosted virtual desktop offering. tuCloud’s Desktops on Demand offering delivers robust, reliable and secure virtual desktops to thousands of users. The Desktone platform can handle an unlimited number of customers and seats across one management and delivery console, enabling service providers to deliver the most cost-effective virtual desktop on the market.

“tuCloud specializes in designing and building desktop clouds that deliver a superior end user experience,” said Guise Bule, CEO, tuCloud. “With our previous VDI provider we ran into limitations with scalability and costs because we had to build a separate silo for each new customer. Desktone has the only virtual desktop platform built for service providers to deliver cloud-hosted desktops. The DaaS platform enables us to offer full-featured virtual desktops in a scalable cloud environment that can support any number of customers and end users, from SMBs up to multi-thousand seat enterprises.”

“Service providers are looking for a true desktop as a service solution and they’re finding that traditional VDI can’t provide the flexibility, performance or ROI they require,” said Peter McKay, CEO, Desktone. “These technologies, which were built for on-premise deployments, cannot just be moved to a cloud service delivery model. Even VDI solutions that purport to work out-of-the-box still require tremendous effort and time to get up and running, as well as to support.”

DaaS eliminates the hassle of on-site VDI by making it easy to deploy, manage and scale virtual desktops on-demand from the cloud. By running their Desktops on Demand service on Desktone’s multi-tenant cloud architecture, tuCloud can rapidly provision virtual desktops anytime on any device at a very compelling price point.

tuCloud’s DaaS Desktops on Demand™ service will be available to enterprises throughout North America and the U.K. beginning in April 2012. For more information, please visit www.tucloud.com.
