Will Collaborate with Global Initiative on Hosted Virtual Desktop Services for Mobile Workforce
Chelmsford, MA – Desktone, Inc., provider of the first platform that enables hosted virtual desktops as an outsourced subscription service, today announced its membership in the ng Connect Program, the multi-industry initiative which is driving development of broadband services based on Long Term Evolution (LTE) and other ultra-high bandwidth technologies.
"Desktone joined the ng Connect Program because we believe that LTE and 4G have the promise to completely revolutionize the way hosted virtual desktops are used," said Jeff Fisher, Vice President of Strategy, Desktone. "Desktops as a service® (DaaS®) is widely acclaimed as it enables companies to realize the flexibility and efficiency benefits of virtual desktops without incurring any upfront capital expense and without having to build and maintain the infrastructure themselves. By combining DaaS with 4G and LTE, we're making pervasive DaaS access and a greatly improved virtual desktop user experience possible for the fast-growing mobile workforce."
By enabling cloud-hosted virtual desktops that are delivered as a subscription service, Desktone is helping to usher in a new era of client computing, turning it into a cost-effective, reliable service that can be scaled rapidly. The company is already working with major global service providers–such as IBM, Verizon, SCC, SoftBank Telecom, ICC Global Hosting, and Marubeni Corporation–whose offerings allow corporations to quickly implement virtual desktops. Fostering the adoption of 4G and LTE with hosted virtual desktops takes these efforts to the next level, and opens DaaS to the broadest base of users.
"The ng Connect Program is a strong ecosystem of innovative companies that, together, can deliver services that give customers anytime, anywhere access, across all devices and networks, to the next generation of services and applications," says Derek Kuhn, VP of Emerging Technology and Media, Alcatel-Lucent and ng Connect founding member. "As the pioneer of desktops as a service, Desktone has deep understanding of how businesses, network operators and service providers can leverage new cloud-based technologies supported by next generation 4G/LTE networks to enhance their agility and competitive advantage. We looked forward to Desktone's contributions to the ng Connect Program."
