White paper: Reducing Desktop TCO with Desktone Desktops as a Service® (DaaS®)

Desktop management is a budget category which is both costly and difficult to measure. New computing models, such as Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI), are being introduced to the enterprise with the intent to reign in these costs and bring further clarity to desktop operational expenditures. While the VDI model has shown great promise, it is only the first step in truly realizing maximized cost savings and improving an organization's knowledge of its true desktop TCO.

Desktops as a Service (DaaS) is a utility computing model that builds on the VDI concept and enables service providers to host virtual desktops and manage the necessary infrastructure in return for a monthly fee per desktop. This allows an enterprise to attain the improved desktop management economics of the VDI model without having to incur the additional infrastructure and management cost associated with VDI. In addition, DaaS allows organizations to better understand their desktop TCO.

This white paper serves as a companion to Desktone's DaaS TCO Calculator, a comprehensive tool for determining the desktop TCO for a specific environment. The purpose of this document is to provide a high-level overview of the findings of the calculator. The paper also highlights the top considerations when working with the DaaS calculator.
